Three Areas of Advisory

Each matter we handle is distinct. The services below represent the areas where we spend most of our time — and where we believe we can be most useful to the families who come to us.

Custody Order Enforcement

Custody Order Enforcement

When existing custody orders have not been followed, we provide representation in enforcement and, where necessary, contempt proceedings. We prepare submissions, attend hearings, and work to resolve compliance issues with the least disruption to the children at the centre of the matter.

  • Enforcement applications and contempt proceedings
  • Child-centred approach throughout
  • Civil communication with the other parent maintained

We coordinate with your other legal and financial advisors where relevant.

  • Spousal interest protection in estate planning

Why Bunga Setia

What Sets Our Practice Apart

The approach we take reflects the nature of family law itself — matters that require patience, discretion, and a clear understanding of what the person in front of us actually needs.

Measured Pace

We do not rush clients through their concerns. Each appointment is given adequate time, and we follow up with written summaries so nothing important is lost between sessions.

Clear Direction

We explain legal positions in plain terms, identify the realistic options available, and help you understand what each path is likely to involve before you commit to any course of action.

Respectful Engagement

Family matters often involve other parties — spouses, children, other advisors. We maintain a respectful tone in all communications, which frequently helps achieve better outcomes for everyone involved.

Discretion as Standard

Your matter is treated with complete confidentiality. We do not discuss client situations outside of the advisory relationship, and our offices provide a private environment for sensitive conversations.

Coordinated Counsel

For matters that touch both family law and estate planning, we work alongside your other advisors — financial planners, other solicitors — so that your arrangements are consistent across all areas.

Local Knowledge

Sarawak family law has its own specificities. Our practice is grounded in the local courts and local practice — and we understand the particular considerations that arise for families in this region.

A First Conversation Costs Nothing

We understand that reaching out to a legal advisor for the first time can feel uncertain. Our initial consultation is an opportunity to describe your situation, ask questions, and understand whether our services are a suitable fit — without any obligation to proceed.

Questions

What People Often Ask

How do I know if I need a family law advisor at this stage?
Many people come to us not because a crisis has arrived but because they want to understand their position before things become more complicated. If a significant change is underway in your family — whether a separation is being considered, a custody arrangement is not being respected, or a remarriage is raising questions about estate matters — a single advisory session can often clarify a great deal.
What happens at the first consultation?
The first meeting is primarily for listening. We ask you to describe your situation in your own terms, and we ask clarifying questions to understand the key facts and what matters most to you. At the end of the session, we will give you a clear picture of the relevant legal considerations, outline the available options, and discuss how we might be of assistance going forward.
How long do family law matters typically take to resolve?
It depends significantly on the nature of the matter and how the other parties respond. An advisory engagement for couples in counselling may span several weeks; a contested custody enforcement matter can extend over several months if it reaches court. We will give you a realistic timeline assessment once we understand the specifics of your situation — and we will update you promptly when circumstances change.
Are your fees quoted upfront?
Yes. Our fee structures for each service are discussed openly at the outset. The figures on our website reflect starting rates; the final fee for a matter will depend on its complexity and the time required. We will not incur costs on your behalf without your prior agreement, and we provide regular billing summaries throughout any engagement.
Will my matter be kept confidential?
Completely. All communications between you and our practice are subject to legal professional privilege and our own strict confidentiality standards. Nothing you share with us in the course of an advisory relationship will be disclosed to third parties without your explicit consent, except where required by law.
Do you handle matters across Sarawak or only in Kuching?
Our principal office is in Kuching and most of our court work is in the Kuching courts. We can accommodate advisory sessions for clients travelling from other parts of Sarawak, and some elements of our work can be conducted by correspondence or remote consultation where appropriate. Please speak with us about your specific situation.
